International law has governed different nations in order for the nations to have a uniform way of interacting with each other. This brings mutual relationship between nations in order for them to have peaceful interaction. In cases of misunderstanding, there will be agreements that will be officiated by other entities, usually the international institutions. The precedent of the past judicial decisions or stare decisis is a principle in common law legal system that differentiates the common law to civil law. The direct translation of stare decisis is, “let the decision stand.” With this, the principle states that when a decision has been made regarding a certain matter, the courts with the same level and lower courts should adhere to that decision. This applies to the future judicial controversies and questions of the same subject matter. (more…)

There are three major legal systems of the world, namely civil law, common law, and religious law. These three legal systems are very different from each other but other countries use some variations when it comes to their own legal system. Some countries combine civil and common law, others combine civil and religious law, and there are those that combine common and religious law.
