Getting a good deal on a car you can barely afford and driving it home is comparable to Hollywood’s rendition of normal people becoming rock or pop stars and being catapulted into fame and fortune. Of course in most movies there is always a problem that has to be overcome and this metaphor is no exception.
Paying for the car and all its associated fees and expenses is where most people are hit hard and forced to fall back into reality. You start making cut backs and before you know it, you are pulling out of a Shell station having spent ten dollars and looking over your shoulder diligently for sheriff cars because you have no insurance. People that ride motorcycles are generally an independent breed of people altogether. They love the freedom that a motorcycle gives with the air rushing in their face and feeling exhilaration beyond words.
However there is a price to pay for this freedom and the shocking lack of safety that can accompany it has given motorcycles a bad name with many mothers. As the performance of motorcycles became more powerful over time, government had to step in with helmet law mandates. Some may call it an infringement on their freedom, others see it as a necessary evil since accidents involving motorcycles can quickly turn fatal without helmets. (more…)
