The 2010 killing of University of Virginia senior Yeardley Love, 22-years-old at the time of her death, garnered national media attention, mainly due to the violent nature of the crime. A roommate found her body, face-down in a pillow covered in blood, a crime for which her on-again/off-again boyfriend, George Huguely, was accused. Both were seniors nearing graduation at the time, looking at bright futures, and both played for the university’s nationally ranked lacrosse teams (women’s and men’s, respectively). So it came as a terrible shock to the campus and the community when Huguely, upon being arrested, waived his Miranda rights and admitted to killing his girlfriend of nearly two years. And now he has been officially found guilty and sentenced to hard time. (more…)
